You have 30 days time to change everything, including your driver's license. I moved to Texas a year ago, and was the biggest challenge of all time! My license has expired for two days (I was not able to DPS at the moment because of work and was fired B / C to the extremely long wait in line) and had to repeat the driver d 'test and the timing of quotes that difficult to obtain and everything! I moved from California to Texas in July last year. My CA labels have been well until February. I did not replace it until then. She held my license in California as well.

So my answer is: Yes you can. You can not have the letter of the law, but my experience was that it was a big deal.
